Fun Facts

I wrote a collection of short stories about magic portals and middle-school for my MFA thesis. When I'm not reading or writing I enjoy dancing, playing tennis and making smoothies!

About Me

As a lifelong reader and writer who recently completed an MFA Writing program, I want nothing more than to share my gift with others. Working for Frog Tutoring, I will help my students to not only develop their skills but to find within themselves the joy that can be derived from mastering an essay or fully comprehending a great work of literature.

Working as an at-home tutor for 1 on 1 Academic Laptop Tutoring, I worked with a wide diversity of students in the K-12 age range.  These ran the gamut from those with learning disabilities and language barriers to driven, college-bound students in challenging AP classes.  My biggest breakthrough was working with a first-grader named Gustavo, who could not put together word sounds during our initial sessions. By the last session, he could read entire pages! Working with these students, I experienced a strong personal connection where I found myself teaching them lessons that extended beyond the classroom.  It was a two-step process, as I encouraged students to participate in the learning process and I ended up learning many valuable lessons from them as well.

During my graduate program I worked as a teaching assistant for a writing composition class. While tutoring students one-on-one, I faced challenges as many of the students felt writing to be boring, confusing and scary. Because these students were enrolled in fine-arts or fashion-design programs, they did not believe that learning how to write a proper essay was relevant to their career paths. Additionally I had many ESL students who had difficulty understanding basic grammar, let alone composing entire essays. Through innovative teaching strategies I showed these students that not only was a mastery of writing within their grasp, but that it could actually be fun!
