Fun Facts

When I am not studying, or volunteering, I am found getting crafty doing arts and crafts for hours! Jo-Ann’s is my second home, where I like to do D.I.Y. creations such as sewing, scrapbooking, fabric dying, and key chain making. Along with craft making I love to paint. I was always very artistic as I was a young girl. Drawings of Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry, and Tweety Bird as a little girl have leaded me to be more creative with my artistic skills due to my passion for art. I still hold that desire for art today as I continue to paint elaborate detailed paintings in my spare time. I love going to music venues and show events as I get to express my emotions through dance and letting loose through music.

About Me

I am a senior Biology major with a minor in Communication Studies at California State University of Los Angeles. I am a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society for my academic excellence as being in the top 15% of my class at my university. When I graduate, I wish to attend the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles to earn my medical degree in Dermatology as my dream career is to become a Dermatologist. I would love nothing more than to acquire an in depth knowledge of the skin and to share my own experiences so that I may one day open up my own practice and help others with their own troubles that they face whether it is acne, rosacea, liver spots, or even the most severe cases of skin cancer.

I have volunteered as a teacher’s assistant at Heart of Los Angeles, also known as HOLA, in the Rampart District of Los Angeles. HOLA provides free after school programs to undeserved and at risk youth. I wanted to help these kids in any way I could so when it came down to homework I helped the students with their assignment problems until they had a better understanding of the material and were able to learn the correct answer to their problem. Frog Tutoring can help me extend my knowledge to students in need of academic help.

As a child, school was not my forte. I found it to be very difficult to comprehend and for a time my biggest fear in life was not passing a class. However, as I became older I realized the reason I did not excel in school was because of the methods used by the teacher. Having an instructor simply recite what the book said and only using the rare examples mentioned in that same book was not beneficial to me. So I then started to find ways of teaching myself the material. I realized I needed to see these visual examples being demonstrated in front of me step by step. In order to truly grasp and understand material, I would need to relate the problems to something I knew and was familiar with and connect the two. As a tutor, I would to get to know the student as I would use their likes and dislikes to form a connection to the subject matter as well as by bringing in visualizations such as drawings to help the student understand more. This will definitely engage the students, making them feel motivated to learn as they will be more involved in asking questions and feel confident which will improve their study skills. A more personal approach rather than reading straight from the book in a monotonous tone is the approach I am going to perform as I think is the most effective to improving the scores of the students.
