Fun Facts

I find it difficult to reduce all of my passions into a few sentences, but I will do my best to fit these constraints. I thoroughly enjoy listening to and creating music. I recently began playing the ukelele, but before I played this instrument, I dabbled with pianos and keyboards. I make sure to prioritize my health by exercising daily. I'm also a novice interior designer.

About Me

I am a senior at FIU, studying to be an elementary school educator with an ESOL endorsement. I am part of four honor societies, one of which is internationally recognized. I have also been on the Dean's list for one year. I am considering further studies at Harvard Graduate School of Education or boston-university">Boston University's School of Education.

I worked at a local miami">tutoring center in 2012. At the center, I was responsible for FCAT preparation, homework help, and language arts miami">tutoring. I am an AVID trained miami">tutor. I also work as a substitute teacher during the school year and apply my miami">tutoring skills in this field every day in every subject area to the best of my ability. My education courses at FIU also required me to teach and miami">tutor at many local elementary schools for 120+ hours.

My approach to miami">tutoring is similar to my approach to teaching in that I don't believe in treating students' minds as vessels to be filled with rote knowledge. I find value in showing students how to arrive at their own solutions because knowledge gained in this way resonates on a deeper level. From my experiences during AVID training, I was able to appreciate and understand the importance of the Socratic method of questioning and the use of Cornell notes to aid in metacognition for students. It is critical to understand what knowledge and skills students already possess and building off of that as a resource to obtain the best results.
