Fun Facts

One thing about me that people may think is strange is I enjoy running cross country. My high school team's motto was "Our sport is your punishment!" I also play the drums, but am not in a band. I think the brain is one of the coolest things in the world. Lastly, I grew up in Ohio and am an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan!

About Me

I am a senior at the chicago">University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), studying neuroscience and following the pre-med curriculum. I will be graduating in December 2011. Currently, I am applying to medical school and work part-time as a research and administrative assistant to a transplant surgeon at the University of Illinois Medical Center.

As an active member of the Chicago Civic Leadership Certificate Program (CCLCP) at UIC, I worked with children in underprivileged neighborhoods of Chicago through an After School Matters program. Together, we used art as a medium through which to express ourselves and create a sense of pride in our communities. We also learned about the importance of a proper, healthy, nutritionally balanced diet and even hosted weekly television shows educating the community on what we learned! Through this experience and serving as a mentor to these children, I realized my desire to work with children. I also developed my ability to reason with older aged students while chicago">tutoring at the UIC Honor's College chicago">tutoring center. There, I worked with college students on many courses in the premedical curriculum.

The combined experiences from the aforementioned mentoring and chicago">tutoring opportunities, I find myself approaching students with a very open-minded mentality. I understand that each student is unique and therefore, has unique areas in which he or she may need help. Also, I learned how essential it is to send students off with 1. a sense of accomplishment and confidence and 2. a personal assignment to practice the new methods we worked on. These often forgone pieces of chicago">tutoring are absolutely critical- keeping a high morale is what helped me get through my difficult courses; practice makes what you practice permanent, not perfect. I vow, to the best of my ability, to help the students I chicago">tutor practice the best study methods I know so as to make their educational efforts permanently perfect.
