Fun Facts

I'm a musician who likes exploring all kinds of music on all kinds of instruments (I've been playing around with the melodica recently). I also write poetry and short fiction, and have been published in my school's literary magazine. I have a twin brother, but have never seriously considered trying to switch identities with him.

About Me

I'm a second-year student at the chicago">University of Chicago, majoring in English and philosophy. My GPA is currently a 3.9. After college I plan on either going to law school (in the hopes of going into legal theory at a university or practicing constitutional law) or graduate school for philosophy. Right now much of my time is devoted to helping organize Voices from North Korea, a talk bringing two North Korean refugees to campus to discuss their experiences and ways to help fight human rights abuses.

In high school I volunteered with the TAP program, focusing on teaching elementary- and middle-school level math. I was a freelance chicago">tutor during the summer of 2013, teaching high-school level math and test prep for the SAT and ACT on an individual level with students.

Theoretical understanding is important to me. I want students to be able to know why their answer is right, not just to produce the right answer. I find that not only is this approach more enriching, it also actually makes the process easier--it makes rote memorization less important, in favor of a basic grasp of concepts.
