I love music, traveling, and spending time with friends. My favorite type of music is jazz. I love to travel and explore different cultures and languages. I speak Spanish, French, and a little Portuguese. My favorite outdoor activities are cycling and ultimate Frisbee.

About Me

I graduated from Bates College in 2002 with a BA in French, taught English in France for a year, and then worked in biotech in the Boston area. I taught French at a private high school in the Boston area and then taught French as well as tutored students in ESL and Spanish at a private high school in Connecticut. I earned my MBA at Brandeis Heller School after becoming more interested in non-profit management as well as NGOs and international educational organizations. I’m currently obtaining an MS in accounting with the

Experience

I taught languages for six years, including one year in France where I taught ESL. Meeting with students outside of class for extra help sessions was one of the most important elements of my classes. Because each student has a unique set of gifts, skills, and abilities, I structured my study sessions to meet each student's particular needs. The most important learning often happened during the individual meetings. At Cambridge Community Services I tutored high school students in ESL, writing, study skills, and U.S. history.

Approach

As I found while working one-on-one with students when I taught in a high school, each student has a special set of strengths, weaknesses, and ways of being motivated. In order to develop an effective boston">tutoring plan, I observe the student working through several tasks typical of the subject the student needs help with, as well as observe how he or she works and thinks. Often times, a student needs help with specific study skills and habits to perform better. I believe positive reinforcement is central to helping any student realize his or her strengths and moving forward.
