Fun Facts

My main interest has always been reading. Since I was ten, I have made it a goal to read at least one novel per week, and my favorite authors are Faulkner, Wallace, and Nabokov. I also have always had a passion for traveling, and I make it a point to visit at least two new countries each year. I have also dabbled in standup comedy, performing several primetime shows at well-known NYC clubs.

About Me

I am a senior at New York University, studying Comparative Literature, Politics, Philosophy, and Creative Writing. I have been on the Dean's List since freshman year, with an overall GPA of 3.8. After my junior year, I was also awarded a research grant to study the literature and culture of the American Southwest. After graduation, I hope to attend graduate school to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing.

My first experience with manhattan">tutoring occurred during my freshman year of high school. As a volunteer, I worked with middle school students in education/new-york/manhattan">special education programs to develop their basic reading and math skills. I continued manhattan">tutoring in college by joining the America Reads program. I was assigned to a New York City middle school, where I helped provide inner city students with individual attention in their math, science, and English classes. I would be excited to work for Frog manhattan">Tutoring and continue providing help to students who need it.

Most of my manhattan">tutoring experience has been geared toward providing help to students in education/new-york/manhattan">special education programs, and working with these students, above all, has taught me patience. I think it is important for a manhattan">tutor to be prepared to take a variety of approaches (auditory, visual, etc.) and to not get frustrated when one particular approach isn't working. Part of this flexibility involves allowing the student to arrive at the answer herself. It doesn't matter how fancily or eloquently a manhattan">tutor can explain a topic—what matters is if the student understands. A manhattan">tutor's role is to guide the student toward understanding a concept and to not get frustrated along the way.
