Fun Facts

I am a big Giants fan. Some of my most vivid memories are from the 1989 World Series and the earthquake which disrupted it. Baseball is a pretty statistics heavy sport, and this gives my family quite a lot to argue about.

About Me

I graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2007 with a degree in mathematics. While there, I realized that teaching math was as rewarding as learning about it, and so, after moving to Portland, I am in the process of getting my teaching credential from Portland State. Hopefully I will be able to stay in the area afterward, as Oregon is a very temperate place to live.

While at Santa Cruz, I often helped my peers with math related classes, and since the beginning of the year, I have been student teaching in a high school geometry class. I originally expected high school students to behave differently from college students, but have since realized that they are no less interested in math than their older compatriots. That is to say, getting them to stay on task is just as much of a challenge.

By far the most important aspect of imparting knowledge is the enthusiasm of the teacher. If I am excited to know what my students are learning, then they will be also. Proper questioning is almost as important, since too often students are asked for their solution but not how they got it.
