About Me

My name is Liz Jarvis, and I am 25 years old. I I have a Bachelor's degree in History with a Minor in English from Mississippi State University and am currently pursuing my Masters of Arts in Teaching at the memphis">University of Memphis. I have lived in Memphis for over three years and am originally from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I love to work with kids and am passionate about education.

I have spend the last three years working full-time at an non-profit afterschool program as a memphis">tutor and program coordinator. I worked with youth from PK to 12th grade for fours hours per day in all subjects. This program focused heavily on academic achievement, along with motivation and mentorship.

My memphis">tutoring approach consists of assessment, instruction, collaboration, independent work, and reassessment. For instance, I begin by assessing the student on a certain subject or problem. Then, depending on what the student needs, I will show them how do to one or two problems as an example. Next, we will do one or two problems together; then they will do some independently. Finally, I will reassess and see if they have mastered the skill. I also believe in encouragement and helping students relate skills and subjects to their own lives.
