Fun Facts

This year I will be taking Japanese and can hopefully be able to hold a general conversation by the time the first semester is over. I try to sample as much native Austin food as possible since I am here and enjoy the scenery. I enjoy cooking, working out and volunteering in my free time away from school and research.

About Me

I am a Sociology student at St. Edward's University and also a McNair Scholar seeking a Ph.D. in Sociology upon my graduation in May. This summer I presented my research about the naming practices of minority parents at a national conference in New York and two other local arenas. I have been in Austin for four years now and have become accustom to the culture.

I was an intern for Austin Partners in Education for fall 2011 and spring 2012. I worked with 6th and 8th graders to improve their reading and math skills in the spring semester. I have also helped students at St. Edward's through the Black Students' Alliance.

My approach is not intimidating, I focus on giving problem solving skills instead of focusing so heavily on the answer of a particular question. The setting of learning is relaxed and I will help the student understand to the best of my ability. However, I do believe in having a great base of fundamental knowledge.
