Fun Facts

I LOVE anything related to literature and love correct spelling & grammar, so call me a literary nerd and I'll take it as a compliment. I love to travel; I have recently studied abroad in London and set foot in Europe eating pizza in Italy, croissants in Paris, and tapas in Barcelona (clearly I enjoy food as well). I love to help others and find joy in seeing others improve themselves, find their passion, and learn new things.

About Me

This fall I will be a senior at SMU studying English Literature double minoring in Psychology and Women's and Gender Studies. I hope to pursue a career in teaching someday; one of my goals in life is to influence other students to devote themselves in improving their minds and engage critically with relevant issues. My immediate plans following graduation include studying in graduate school, working for Teach for America and possibly the Peace Corps, or teaching English in Korea for a summer.

In Summer 2012 in Dallas, TX, as a summer intern at Project Transformation (non-profit organization), I created curriculum for under privileged children in Dallas (grades 1-5) in areas of Reading/Literacy, Recreation, and Arts & Crafts. I read to children for 30 minutes everyday to increase vocabulary and reading comprehension 5 days a week and practiced journaling 3 times a week. This experience taught me to apply my personal teaching methods and see my students progress with their language skills, reading comprehension, and more importantly, self confidence.

I believe it is important to always have goals in mind and keep a daily schedule. Time management is crucial for everyone: elementary to college students. I would be happy to work with students to create a specific schedule catered to their abilities, interests, and ambitions. I would challenge students to work smart, not hard. To increase vocabulary I would encourage students to read books they feel may be a bit difficult for them. To improve writing skills, it is important to read as much as possible and not be afraid to write to find your own style.
