Fun Facts

The one thing that I love to do in my spare time is knit! It is a great hobby that I established with my grandmother. I also enjoy playing soccer, skiing, and reading. During my Junior year of college I interned at the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Pathology. During this time I actually had hands-on experience in performing numerous autopsies! About Me

I have two B.S. degrees from the University of connecticut/new-haven">New Haven in Biology and Forensic Science. I made the deans list all but one of my semesters in college! I currently work full-time as a DNA technologist for Genedx. I would like to gain some experience over the next year in research and clinical settings to help me determine what I would like to do with my future.

As an older sister of four I continually gain experience washington-dc">tutoring and mentoring. I have tutored students ranging from elementary school to high school. I have assisted all four of my siblings with math, science, reading, and Spanish at various grade levels. I also have experience washington-dc">tutoring a 16 year old in chemistry and spanish as well as a 9 year old in reading and math. In addition, I spent a year as the mentor of a fellow staff member during my Resident Assistant position at the University of connecticut/new-haven">New Haven. This involved helping my new coworker manage her time with academics and work, along with providing moral support during stressful situations.

My first approach to washington-dc">tutoring is to establish a relationship with the student and get to know his or her strengths and weaknesses. It is my belief that in order to teach effectively you have to understand how the student learns and make the washington-dc">tutoring process fun and interesting! I feel that one of the most important aspects of washington-dc">tutoring is to help the students understand how they learn best, and teach them to put this knowledge to use in and out of the classroom. I will also help him or her learn time management skills and how to study effectively so that the student can get the most out of his or her education. Having utilized washington-dc">tutors during high school and college I have a great understanding or the struggles involved with learning, and how to overcome them. My experiences as a washington-dc">tutor and having been tutored myself will help me guide your student to success!
