Fun Facts

In my free time, I like to go out to parks or on road trips with my Labrador. I love to make jewelry and have a small business selling my work. I also like taking silly pictures of my cat and dog playing together whenever they distract me from reading or studying (which is quite frequently). I love to write and work on my novel when the Labrador and I are not off adventuring!

About Me

I graduated from University of Hawaii at Hilo in 2012 with a BA in Japanese Studies. I am currently halfway through my MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and plan to go on to get my Ph.D before I begin teaching in Japan. I earned a certificate in Communication while attending Bakersfield College in 2010 before I transferred to Hawaii. For the last year, I have been an assistant instructor at the English Language Institute at Sacramento State where I have been teaching grammar, composition, and reading.

I have been tutoring students and peers since high school. I have always excelled in writing and wanted to share my love for languages. I tutored international students in English while attending the University of Hawaii. I have also spent the last year teaching students grammar, composition, reading, and vocabulary at the English Language Institute at Sacramento State and I have just begun teaching a course at Sacramento State in English oral skills.

I believe that teaching and learning should be approached with positivity and passion. I have always enjoyed instructors who have made learning fun and I am to do the same with those that I tutor. It can be easy for students to get overwhelmed by the material they need to learn so I believe that it is important to encourage students to look at their progress and celebrate their accomplishments. I think that when the student sees the progress they are making and feel encouraged, they are more confident in conquering the next set of material they need to learn.
