English Tutoring

I have majored in English/British Literature and have used everything I teach. I've written research papers, class papers, and taken English tests that have tested my grammar and written abilities. I also have taught at a private institute where I had to teach what I have learned from my major. I've taught this subject from beginning to advanced levels for over eight years.

Writing Tutoring

I have taught this subject for over eight years from beginning to advanced level based on what I learned myself from my major. I also have trained to be an adult ESL instructor through my Masters program at Walden which required high level writing skills that I proved I had and could implement in all my classes. Also I had to tutor in these skills at my job in Seoul, South Korea and at my job at ELS in Seattle to adult ESL basic learners from beginning to advanced levels.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

I have had to teach the basic skills to high schoolers from my previous tutoring job at Wyzant. I am very aware of being able to integrate the school's requirements along with my own lessons if required. I have had lots of experience through actual teaching overseas and in Seattle in creating and implementing lesson plans for reading classes.

Study Skills Tutoring

All the classes I have taught overseas and in the United States required me to review basic study skills. I go over with all my students what I expect from them as far as test taking and reviewing reading/writing materials. I go over with them how to successfully study reading and writing in order to achieve a passing grade. Teaching basic study skills for my subjects is absolutely necessary regardless of whether I am teaching a specific subject or study skills in general for any class.

Writing Advance Tutoring

I have taught advanced writing skills overseas and in Seattle WA when working at the private language institute. I know that advanced students need challenges and to be pushed to build upon and expand their writing skills. Advanced students need to learn various types of paper writing and various high level forms of written expression.

Homework Coach Tutoring

Every student I've taught has been hown how to succeed in their homework at the beginning of the course. I offer individual help along the way if I see a student is not achieving the homework goals due to not turning in homework or doing a poor job at the homework. When I've tutored students in their homework when tutoring, I've given suggestions on how to schedule doing homework, how to approach questions on various homework forms, and went over the homework assignments individually on any homework he/she was having trouble with at the time.

Math Tutoring

I have tutored elementary school math on all the basic math topics which were subtraction, addition, multiplication and division. I can cover the basic math problems but will not go beyond basic math into algebra or other specialized subjects.

Study Skills Tutoring

As an ESL/English teacher, I have to cover how to study for my course at the beginning of the semester or quarter. I go over how to take notes and review them every day/night when the student has spare time. I talk about getting an area where they can concentrate in order to study and I encourage all my students to get a study buddy if at all possible for peer editing on papers or to read aloud sections of a book that I've assigned. If I see a student not maintaining good grades in my classes, I privately talk with them and see if they are having trouble doing the homework or studying the material due to not understanding or daily distractions outside of the classroom.
