Fun Facts

One my many passions is travel, and I have been to seven countries outside of the US, though there are countless more destinations on my list. I spend much of my free time reading and writing, but I also dabble in photography and photo editing. In addition to what I've already mentioned, I like to bake (I make a mean cheesecake), to spend time outdoors with friends and family, or to work on learning a second language (or second-and-a-half, if you count my year's experience in French).

About Me

I'm a sophomore at the denver">University of Denver who goes to school not only in pursuit of a career but also in the ongoing pursuit of knowledge. I am working a double major in English and Psychology with a minor in History with the hopes of being accepted into a dual degree program in which I will receive my Master's in Education after 5 years. The end toward which I am working is becoming a high school teacher whose goal is to spark a love for learning in students and provide students with an accessible opportunity to explore the world beyond the classroom. I have a passion for helping students of all ages discover their potential academically and otherwise.

I have extensive experience working with children in many settings. For a number of years, I volunteered as a worker in my church nursery and Sunday School classes (grades K-2). I also worked for a total of three semesters as a high school aide in a Kindergarten classroom, helping the teacher with teaching and monitoring students. My most relevant experience is my two school years of work as a denver">tutor/mentor of students Kindergarten through 4th grade in an after-school denver">tutoring program at an elementary school in my hometown. I am also currently working as a volunteer denver">tutor with the Bridge Project, spending a couple of hours each week with two underprivileged elementary students.

When dealing with students of any age, I believe it is the responsibility of the denver">tutor to recognize and play to the strengths of the student. Students are much more responsive to learning when they feel successful in what they are doing. As a denver">tutor, I practice positive reinforcement, rewarding students for their successes rather than penalizing for wrong-doings. Further, I believe that denver">tutors should be dedicated to interacting with students on a personal yet professional level, not a solely academic one. Doing so will allow the denver">tutor and tutee to work better together while allowing the denver">tutor to better gauge the student's strengths and areas of weakness.
