Fun Facts

One major key fact about myself is that I do not limit my abilities. I love to explore and learn new things. I have a passion for photography/videography and editing, I love to sing, dance, and enjoy myself. I'm the youngest of six, 3 out of the six being half-siblings. My goal is to one-day say that I have been to each continent, even though I truly aim to explore the entire globe.

About Me

I am currently a second year Pre-Med Biology major pursuing a minor in Psychology and Chemistry at Florida International University. I've made the Dean's list this past semester and plan on remaining there for the rest of my academic career at FIU. After I finish, I plan on attending medical school in hopes of achieving my career goal of becoming an OBGYN/pediatrician.

Experience

Throughout my academic career I have helped tutor my friends who's knowledge on the topic ranged from knowing nothing at all to knowing most and just requiring minor assistance. Additionally, during high school, I was apart of the math society, Mu Alpha Theta, which offered tutoring weekly for students in need of help with math. I've also volunteered my time after school in high school as an student athletic trainer, learning and teaching the skills needed to effectively assist the trainer.

Approach

I like to offer a lot of real-world or simpler examples. In my own experience, I have found this to be the best thing to do. At that point, it no longer becomes foreign so it's less intimidating. What I've also found helpful, especially during math (specifically calculus) was learning the foundation as to how certain math equations and phenomena developed. Honestly, it was annoying, but effective. If I forgotten a shortcut to an equation, I would use the foundation in order to solve the problem.

Homework Coach Tutoring

Having experienced high school, especially at a level at which I'm balancing extracurricular activities, AP and Dual Enrollment classes, I understand how difficult balancing homework maybe. Homework is something that should be used as a learning tool to make sure the student understands the topic and. as a homework coach, that would be my job.

Spanish I Tutoring

Growing up I learned Spanish through a Spanish nanny that I had. It got to the point where Spanish was my first language over English. Unfortunately, that didn't last forever, but since then Spanish has been in my life all throughout my life. I've taken it in second grade, Spanish 1 in middle school, Spanish 2 and 3 during high school, and Spanish once again in college.

Study Skills Tutoring

Being a college student, I've learned that study skills are VITAL to academic success. With that experience, I will guide the student to figure out what skills work for them. I've found that studying is a very personal thing but something that also has to be mastered in order to be effective.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

I love reading and have found understanding much of what you read is far more important than any child may realize. I've personally haven't experienced much problems with reading but have helped others increase their understanding. I find that discussion is crucial especially since many readings have diverse meanings.

Writing Tutoring

I've taken many English classes, AP English Language and Composition, AP English literature, and ENC1102 in college. Each has developed me into a grammar crazy, English appreciating individual. I've also helped friends, those friends not having English as their primary language, with issues involving grammar and their own writing.

Math Tutoring

Math has always been a favorite subject of mine. I've taken a number of math classes ranging from Algebra 1 my freshman year to AP Calculus my senior year, ending with a 5 on the AP exam. I've also tutored a few of my friends in their math classes, much of whom math was their least strongest subjects.

ESL/ESOL Tutoring

During middle school, I've had experience tutoring ESOL/ESL students. Many of these students have been very successful and are truly amazing individuals.

FCAT Tutoring

I've gotten 4s and 5s on FCAT throughout my academic career. I use to despise the fact that teachers taught to the FCAT because I've always found that an understanding of the topic makes the FCAT easy. However, through that style of teaching I've also had much experience with FCAT style questions which makes it easy to teach.

Microsoft PowerPoint Tutoring

I love PowerPoint. I find it to be a tremendous tool. I've done a number of different things with PowerPoint ranging from normal presentations to movies.

Microsoft Word Tutoring

I've taken classes on how to master Microsoft Word and also use it regularly throughout college and throughout my academic career.

Video Production Tutoring

I've taken Communication Arts throughout high school for two years which involved TV production and editing videos. I've been recognized by teachers and continue to involve myself with video production even today throughout high school with my school's current production of a black history month news show.
