Fun Facts

One of my greatest passions is playing the piano. I began studying music at a very young age and have been taking opportunities to increase my level of knowlege through playing in various churches. I entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps when I was 18 years old and returned as a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps 20 years later. Having been deployed to Hungary and Germany during the Bosnia-Croatian War, I learned how to be a nurse under the most difficult living conditions.

About Me

I am an Assistant Professor at a local university teaching nursing - my experiences include nursing assistants, practical nurses, associate degree nurses, and bachelor degree nurses. One of my main functions is to prepare nursing students to take the NCLEX. - tutoring and mentoring. Students are my passion and the joys of seeing them become a licensed nurse is what drives me forward.

Experience

Since I have been teaching for many years, I have gained much insight into how to interact with various cultures and personalities. My passion is working with students to understand test-taking strategies that can improve their ability for success on the NCLEX. Time management and test-taking anxiety are two themes that I focus on in addition to nursing content. My background is a medical-surgical nurse and have practiced in multiple areas, i.e, cardiology, neurology, multi-system units.

Approach

My approach for helping students varies - my first goal is to get to know the student and to learn how they learn. We, together, identify their strengths and weakness, and focus on these aspects to develop a solid plan for tutoring sessions. Helping students understand concepts is accomplished by multiple means such as illustrations, narrative stories, and critical thinking exercises.
