About Me

I grew up in washington/seattle">Seattle, WA, and graduated from high school when I was 15, after taking AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP Spanish, and yoga (among other classes). At goshen-college">Goshen College (Ind.), I studied Bible, Religion, and Philosophy, with minors in History and Communications. I worked for one year providing support services and college and career planning to youth in foster care. I have also worked at residential and day summer camps and as a curriculum writer. Currently, I am pursuing my Master's in Divinity degree.

As a college student, I tutored my classmates in Biology, Religion, and English courses. I edited papers for a variety of classes, ranging from English 101 to Music Theory. As a graduate student, I study for exams by making multiple-choice powerpoints and sending them to my friends. I have worked with elementary, middle, and high school youth in a variety of settings. Most of my atlanta">tutoring with these age groups has been one-on-one, in a variety of subjects.

I have always excelled in Humanities courses, but struggled in Math and Science classes. Several excellent teachers helped me through my math and science classes, and so I know that a little bit of time with a good teacher can make all the difference. atlanta">Tutoring must and should be tailored to fit an individual students' needs. I like to use the multiple intelligences philosophy, engaging different methods (ie., music, nature, logic, visuals) to help students learn. However, I also adjust my style to be age appropriate and fit the specific learning style and ability of the student. I believe learning is a life skill, and one of the goals of the atlanta">tutor is to remove the student's mental and emotional barriers (the "I can't" attitude) so that the student can gain confidence and become a self-motivated learner, even if he or she still needs atlanta">tutoring.
