Fun Facts

I love to write poetry. After I graduate college, I plan to travel to other countries to teach English. I like to hike and camp. My longest trek was 30 miles. I have a dog and a cat; both are rescues. I'm into healthy living and do-it-yourself. (I just made my own shaving cream.) My two favorite things to read are manga and eastern philosophy.

About Me

University of New Mexico; English Major; 4th year; General GPA: 3.85; Major GPA: 4.13; I plan to work as a freelance writer for some time, and I plan to travel to Asia to teach English as a second language.

It has been a while since I have tutored formally. I used to run a summer survival camp through the BSA (Boy Scouts of America). I would teach different outdoor skills. In this fashion I worked as an instructor, but I was also assigned to a group of boys to be their mentor/albuquerque">tutor. I've tutored my friends and some of my classmates through high school and college. I have helped with math and science classes, but what I have done most is help edit my peers' writing. At the moment I work as a professional writer for a business that encourages science in schools. I'm learning how to write test prep questions.

In the spring of my Freshman year I spent a semester at St. John's College, Santa Fe, where they don't have "professors" or "instructors," they have albuquerque">tutors. Their philosophy is that "albuquerque">tutors" don't offer the correct answers, instead they serve as guides. They can ask the right questions, assuming a position of ignorance, or humble reserve, so that the student can come to understanding on their own. albuquerque">Tutors ask the right questions to prompt self-learning. As Socrates says in the "Meno": "...nothing prevents a man [or woman], after recalling one thing only--a process men call learning--discovering everything else for himself...." I will serve my students as a guide. Their discoveries will empower them to learn more and love knowledge.
