Fun Facts

As a good Gemini, there are two sides of my personality: some days I enjoy staying at home, ordering pizza and having a Netflix marathon of movies/shows; and some other days I have the need to be outside hiking, rock climbing or swimming. Fun facts: My family and I owe three dogs (including a husky named Thor), ice cream is one of my favorite "foods", and I love my job at the museum!

About Me

I'm a senior at the University of New Mexico, and will be graduating this upcoming Fall of 2014. I'm majoring in Spanish (with departmental honors), and minoring in English (professional writing). Current overall GPA is 3.31. I also work at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, have previously worked at a private ambulance company as an EMT Basic, volunteered at Agora Crisis Center, and was part of the UNM Army ROTC program. I want to work as a medical interpreter/translator once I graduate.

My albuquerque">tutoring experience is related to previous positions of leadership roles and training. When I was a phone/chat worker at Agora, I mentored a small group of new volunteers during a training session. Although I wasn't sure of myself then, I soon found out that I was good at it, and actually grew fond of that task. Later at my job at Maxwell, I went from the position of "gallery attendant" to "public programs senior assistant." During this time I had the opportunity to train three new co-workers, and had positive feedback from them and our superiors.

When it comes to teaching and helping other achieve something, I like to take the "Golden Rule" approach ("Do unto others as others do unto you.") Personally, I learn best when someone makes sure I understand the material instead of just memorize it. All while having the empathy necessary to have the patience, resources and effort for the student. Some of the best teachers I've had are the ones who go beyond their job to be better people and better professionals. This philosophy has inspired me to be the best I can, with the best of my intentions.
