Fun Facts

My absolute favorite thing to do is play my bass guitar, although I play guitar, keyboards, drums, and cello as well (not as well). I'm a huge music and science nerd but also love working out and taking my dog for runs. I'm the kind of guy that will read a book about astrophysics by Neil deGrasse Tyson and then go fishing the next day.

About Me

I graduated with a B.S. in biochemistry from Texas Christian University as a Dean's Scholar in 2017, and spent the last year applying to pharmacy schools after scoring in the 99th percentile on the PCAT. I'm currently in my P1 year at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center's School of Pharmacy in Abilene. Having taken some of the most rigorous math and science courses provided by TCU as required by my major, I'm confident I can help just about anyone succeed academically.

Experience

Having always been great at explaining concepts to my fellow classmates, I worked as a tutor for another local service as an undergraduate. Although my focus at the time was mainly on SAT prep tutoring, I'm eager to utilize my knowledge of and passion for math and the sciences by helping students struggling in this area. Because I understand the impact a tutor can have on someone's academic career, I take this work very seriously and will do all that I can to ensure your success.

Approach

As an undergraduate, my main problem was identifying what concepts I needed to spend more time on for upcoming tests/quizzes and thus how to prioritize my studying. As a tutor, I think it's most effective to first see what the student knows, identify weaknesses, and tackle them head on. Further, I like to help students through problems and provide study guides rather than just repeating what the teacher has said, showing them tricks and shortcuts for tackling a problem.

Further, I scored in the 99th percentile on the biological processes section of the PCAT, displaying my mastery of this subject. Having built upon the fundamentals of biology learned in this course throughout my studies as a biochemistry major, I can even explain the "whys" and "hows" of most topics if it helps the student better understand the material. I am also happy to provide the study guides I made while taking the course, as I believe they will help my students immensely.

Biology II Tutoring

Having earned an A in the lecture and lab components of intro bio II, I also scored in the 99th percentile of the biological processes sections of the PCAT. Additionally, I still have all the study guides I made for this course online and think they will prove a valuable tool for your studies.

Chemistry I Tutoring

As a biochemistry major, chemistry has always been my favorite subject, and I feel I've mastered general chemistry and all the material it entails. Having made an A in both chemistry I and II, I've already helped a handful of high school students immensely by sharing my expertise with them, and I'm usually able to tackle chemistry-related concepts even without any preparation. Further, I spent even more time reviewing general chemistry concepts while studying for the PCAT. Thus, I am exceedingly confident that I can help students ace their tests and I feel comfortable answering questions regarding concepts not mentioned to me beforehand.

Chemistry II Tutoring

I was also very committed to my studies and interested in chemistry II, making an A in the class. Again, my biochemistry background has required me to review and build upon the basic principles of freshman chemistry throughout my time at TCU, and I reviewed these concept even more while studying for the PCAT. I have experience with tutoring high school students in chemistry and have the utmost confidence that I can help any college student obtain the grade they're aiming for in this course.

Pre Calculus Tutoring

Because a lot of math goes into biochemistry coursework, I paid close attention and got an A in pre calculus as an undergraduate. Since then, I've reviewed pre calculus concept even more while studying for the PCAT and have tutored a few high school students in this course, creating study guides as organized and intuitive ways to keep track of the material. I went on to take calculus and physical chemistry, which both require mastery of the foundational concepts learned in pre calculus, so I feel that I have had plenty of practice. I have no doubt that I'll be able to answer students' questions and help them through problems or concepts that they're struggling with.

Organic Chemistry I Tutoring

Having survived organic chemistry, I know this is a difficult class, but I've had to build upon what I learned in this class in my upper-level coursework. I still have my study guides for this subject, so I'm sure my drawing, notes, and verbal explanations will help you immensely. Further, I'm even more confident after studying for the PCAT, which includes an organic chemistry section. Lastly, I have a myriad of tips for the O. chem labs after taking them, getting advice from older students in my major, and finding extremely helpful online resources for the lab assignments.

Organic Chemistry II Tutoring

Similar to my experience with organic chemistry I, I found that the second semester of O. chem was equally difficult but received a lot of help from an advisor who happened to teach organic chemistry. I still have my study guides for this course as well, and would be happy to share them with students seeking guidance. I believe I will be even more helpful in the lab portion of this course, as I made an A in this lab and know of a few websites that can be very valuable in helping students identify their unknown compounds. Finally, I have a vast knowledge of IR spectra and NMR data due to repetition and experience, so I'm sure I can help students with these concepts that are more difficult to grasp.

AP Chemistry Tutoring

Chemistry Tutoring

As a biochemistry major, chemistry has always been my favorite subject, and my dedication to this course is reflected by my A's in both general chemistry I and II. Having already tutored some high school students in their chemistry classes, I feel I very confident that I can help students excel and explain the concepts in a way that they can understand. I was admittedly not very interested in the sciences in high school, so I believe I can find a way to make it interesting to high schools students as well, considering I've been in their shoes.

Math Tutoring

With experience in tutoring students in high school math courses as well as SAT prep math, I am very confident with the material, especially after graduating with a B.S. in biochemistry from TCU and studying extensively for the PCAT (which includes a math section). I've taken calculus, pre-calculus, and a myriad of science courses which require complex mathematical calculations as well. Further, I have always made study guides for students struggling in math courses, as I feel having all the formulas/concepts organized and in one place makes studying immensely easier.

Music Theory Tutoring

Having taken AP music theory in high school and earning a high enough score on the final exam to place out of the course at TCU, I'm very confident in my knowledge of this topic. I've also done further reading since then, including music theory focused on jazz, chord substitutions, and writing musically consonant melodies as well as harmonies for a given chord progression or phrase. Additionally, I've done additional ear training over the years and can often identify specific chords in a progression or the notes of melodic phrases immediately after hearing them. As bass guitar, guitar, and piano are all hobbies of mine to this day, I have no doubt I will be able to aid a student needing some help in this rather abstract subject matter.

Pre Algebra Tutoring

After making an A in pre-algebra at TCU and tutoring a few college friends on the subject, I feel I've mastered the material, continuing to use it regularly in calculations for upper-level science courses. Additionally, I tutored SAT prep math for a quite a while as an undergrad and have developed a good strategy for identifying weaknesses and explaining difficult concepts such that any student can understand. I'm a firm believer in study guides as well for courses such as these and would be happy to provide an organized, centralized list of formulae and concepts in order to help my students study.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

Having tutored SAT prep for many years, I've obtained a lot of experience tutoring students in reading comprehension. I also placed out of both "writing as inquiry" and "writing argument" by scoring highly on the AP tests in high school. As an avid reader and a great test taker, I can help students understand what information is most important, how to manage time while taking reading comprehension tests, and what the test makers tend to consider a correct answer. I have no doubt I will be able to help any student get a feel for how persuasive, expository, narrative, and descriptive writing should be interpreted.

SAT Math Tutoring

Having taught as an SAT tutor for several months during my undergraduate studies and having scored a 2190 on the SAT as a high school student, I feel there is no doubt I'm a fantastic option for students wanting to get that extra edge for the SAT. My parents signed me up for multiple SAT camps, tutors, and other programs throughout high school, so I know some of the tricks that others teach and am eager to pass them on to any future students of mine. Additionally, I will come with materials, including the most recent SAT study guide and practice tests.

SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring

Having taught as an SAT tutor for several months as an undergrad after making a score of 2190 on the SAT myself, I know a lot about test-taking strategies and good studying habits for the SAT. Considering I placed out of "writing as inquiry" and "writing argument" by scoring highly on my high school AP tests, I have no doubt that I can guide my students through their writing process and help them manage their time while doing so. I will also be bringing study materials, such as flashcards for the words used most frequently by the SAT test makers.

Writing Tutoring

While I have always been a good writer, it was not until I started tutoring students preparing for the SAT that I discovered how to convey ideas and point out areas that need improvement. I feel I've honed these skills as a college graduate, having taken multiple writing courses throughout my undergraduate studies. Considering I placed out of "writing as inquiry" and "writing argument" by scoring highly on my high school AP tests, I have no doubt that I can guide my students through their writing process and help them manage their time while doing so.

Algebra Tutoring

I have experience tutoring high school as well as SAT prep math and believe that one of my strengths is explaining concepts in terms that any student can understand. As a biochemistry major, I've performed a myriad of mathematic calculations throughout the course of my studies, so I feel very qualified to tutor middle school algebra. Further, I remember being in middle school, so I can relate to the students I would be tutoring; I was admittedly not very academically committed until high school. I believe I will be able to establish a good rapport with students and stress to them how important it is to keep up with and excel in classes, even in middle school.

Math Advance Tutoring

Having earned an A in pre-calculus, graduated with a B.S. in biochemistry, and reviewed a myriad of mathematical concepts while reviewing for the PCAT, I feel very confident with my ability to teach any middle school math topic. As a student who took many honors and AP classes in high school, I can identify with students going above what is required and beyond to further their own education. Additionally, I communicate well with middle school students and have always been able to explain complex topics using language that any student can understand.

Middle School Math Tutoring

Having earned an A in pre-calculus, graduated with a B.S. in biochemistry, and reviewed a myriad of mathematical concepts while reviewing for the PCAT, I feel very confident with my ability to teach any middle school math topic. As a math tutor, I've found it useful to show students the appropriate strategies to work through specific types of problems by solving them myself first. I then ensure their understanding of these strategies/concepts by asking them to solve a similar problem, offering guidance when necessary. Additionally, I communicate well with middle school students and have always been able to explain complex topics using language that any student can understand.

Science Tutoring

With a B.S. in biochemistry and a score in the 99th percentile on the PCAT, I am very well-versed in the sciences, especially biology and chemistry. I'm very passionate about these subjects and believe I'll be able not only to answer students' questions in easily understandable language, but to give real-world applications of various concepts and hopefully spark their interest in the sciences. I believe that my passion and extensive knowledge of the sciences makes me an excellent candidate to tutor any topic covered by middle school science courses.

PCAT Tutoring

Having scored in the 99th percentile on the PCAT on my first try, I think I'm one of the best tutors available for students preparing for this test. I studied biochemistry as an undergraduate and have taken many practice tests in addition to the actual PCAT, so I not only have an extensive knowledge of the science topics covered by the PCAT but also know how the test is organized and the kinds of questions asked. Finally, I've always been a firm believer in administering practice tests and identifying strengths and weaknesses in order to determine which subjects to focus on as a tutor.

PSAT Tutoring

Having tutored students in preparation for the SAT and PSAT, I know what study materials and tutoring strategies achieve the best results. I also scored a 2190 on the SAT in high school and was recognized by the National Merit for my high score on the PSAT, receiving a Letter of Commendation. Given my academic ability and experience, I firmly believe I will ensure my students' success and communicate to them how important the PSAT is due to the honors and scholarships they can earn by scoring highly on this test.

Guitar Tutoring

Although I studied biochemistry in college, I've taken bass guitar and guitar lessons for years and strongly believe I can help any aspiring guitarist or bassist improve immensely. I played bass guitar in our school's exclusive 5-piece jazz combo and have also played guitar and bass at live shows around Fort Worth, including the Aardvark and Ridglea Theater. Having taken AP music theory and earning college credit for it, I can also explain which chord progressions sound musically consonant together and why. I continue to play and read about music theory to this day, so I believe I will be able to teach guitarists of any skill level, focusing on techniques relevant to the specific genres or styles they're most interested in learning.
