Fun Facts
After college I spent my evenings teaching myself to play electric guitar and bass and love to play classic rock music. When I'm not playing or listening to music I can be found drawing, writing fiction or poetry, running, or practicing yoga in a nearby park. I'm also an avid bird watcher—keep a look out for my favorites, the hummingbird and pileated woodpecker!
About Me
After teaching in an independent school for 3 years, I am now a Master's student at Teachers College, Columbia University studying Philosophy and English Education. I graduated from Princeton University in 2015 with a degree in Philosophy and Neuroscience, after which I worked in editorial at The Atlantic magazine, while simultaneously tutoring and volunteering in classrooms. I aim to return to the classroom as a High School English teacher after earning my Masters.
Experience
For the past 3 years I worked at Feynman School, an independent school for gifted learners, as an English teacher for both elementary and middle school students. Prior to teaching full time, I worked as a private tutor for several high school students, working twice a week with each in biology, English, math, and study skills. I also volunteered with the literacy nonprofit 826DC to have the opportunity to work with underserved students in Washington, DC
Approach
As an English teacher and tutor, I challenge each of my students to realize their potential by offering high standards, passion, compassion, and flexible, differentiated instruction. I take a strengths-focused approach, helping students to gain confidence and awareness of what they do well, while bringing resilience, curiosity, and persistence to challenging skills and material. There is no greater joy for me than helping a student to discover his/her voice and creativity as a writer!
