Fun Facts

Back in high school I took a couple years of private flute lessons. In my first year of college, I was in a competitive latin dancing team. Now I spend my days looking for adventures on which to partake.

About Me

I'm a student from University of California, San Diego, studying Chemical Engineering. I am a Regents Scholar, having graduated with a 4.5 GPA in high school. I currently have a 3.7 GPA from a practicum that includes natural sciences, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and to provide some diversity, history. I plan to use my Chemical Engineering degree to develop more environmentally conscious chemical processes.

Apart from tutoring my peers-after all learning engineering is a team effort-I have also tutored in the Kern Literacy Council in Bakersfield, CA. For a few months, I participated in their program in which they tutor adults basic skills such as elementary mathematics and reading.

When tutoring mathematics, the key is to look for gaps in the student's knowledge. This process requires time and might involve isolating different concepts to see if the student is missing that specific one. Once the student has some secure footing in all concepts, practice and patience is the next big step. The same is true for chemistry where theoretical concepts and practical math coincide. As for Spanish, the best approach is to constantly expose oneself to the language and keep trying to speak with someone who can speak the language.
