About Me
I attend the University of Puget Sound, where i was award the Trustee scholarship, and I am currently a senior studying Molecular Cellular Biology with a 3.62 GPA. I am currently applying to some one year graduate programs, such as a 11-month MBA program, while I prepare to apply to medical school, where I hope to become an internist. I am a member of many honor societies such as the Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society, Phi Sigma National Biological Honor Society and I have won many scholar athlete awards.
The washington/washington/tacoma">tacoma">tutoring experience that I have mostly comes from my work as a Teachers Assistant. I have worked as a Teachers Assistant (TA) for the upper division biology course, Cell Biology, for the past 3 (including this fall 2014) semesters at my university. Part of my role as a TA includes providing studying hours, office hours, and being available in the lab for the students. I am a resource for the students for studying, lab reports and for the physical part of the laboratory component of the course.
My first semester as a TA the professor I worked with, who was also my professor for the course the previous semester, taught only using the "socratic method" and encouraged her assistants to promote to that. I think the socratic method can be very useful and promote independent thinking. Yet, personally, I prefer to intermix the socratic method with other types of learning, as students learn best under an array of styles. My washington/washington/tacoma">tacoma">tutoring approach will vary depending on the student, as each learner has different strengths and weakness in their approach to studying. I feel it is my job to build on these strengths and provide the student with many new approaches to studying while fostering an honest and comfortable studying environment.
