Fun Facts
One thing about me is that I live for dance, and I am actually training to become a professional dancer someday. I particularly enjoy going out salsa dancing. Another thing about me is that I studied abroad for six months in Spain during college and it completely changed my life and brought me to become conversationally fluent in Spanish. Overall I love being active, eating healthy and staying social.
About Me
I got my degree in journalism and a major in Spanish at Washington State University and graduated in 2019 with a 3.7 GPA. Like I mentioned before I also studied abroad in Granada, Spain and then returned and volunteered with my study abroad office to mentor others toward the same life changing adventure. I'd like to one day get my masters in translation at a university abroad. I worked at a newspaper for a year and am planning to freelance write in the next few months.
Experience
My most recent experience was with my local newspaper and visitor magazine. I was an editor for multiple semesters in the newspaper and eventually became the editor for a university magazine. I hired and mentored many of my younger peers in how to write publishable news articles and each week I would edit their work alongside them. In high school, I tutored my younger brother each summer in reading and writing. I thoroughly enjoy mentoring others, especially one-on-one.
Approach
Growing up, I was the straight A student who loved learning. I was fortunate to have many wonderful teachers as well. On the flip side, I watched my brother struggle through school and fall behind his peers which is why I took it upon myself to help him catch up and he eventually did. Over the years, I've learned that maintaining a positive and encouraging attitude while providing constructive criticism is key. I like to make learning fun and make sure I always praise improvements.

Journalism
Communication Tutoring
I studied communication for all four years of college, but the main classes I took were writing and reporting as well as public speaking and photojournalism classes. What I am most confident in is how to convey a complete story in a variety forms of media including written, photo and video. I always got an A or B in these courses and I got my work published in local news outlets. I was always asked to edit my peers essays before they submitted them to their professors.
Spanish I Tutoring
I have studied Spanish for 10 years, beginning when I was just 13 years old and I majored in it in college as well. I lived abroad in Spain which increased my Spanish level from intermediate/advanced to fluency. I took Spanish level 2 and 3 in college and finished level 1 college level in high school. I understand the Spanish basics very well. I would always help my peers study for their Spanish classes by reading them flashcards and explaining different tenses and when to use them.
Spanish II Tutoring
I grasped the Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 levels extremely well and always had an A in these classes both in high school and college. I am also TEFL certified in English language and can utilize these language teaching skills for Spanish as well. I can help students practice their Spanish speaking skills as well, because I know many classes don't focus on speaking as much.
English Tutoring
I can help students read and summarize their English homework assignments. I also completed my college level English classes while in high school since I attended my local community college during my senior year.
Writing Tutoring
I have my degree in communication and I am TEFL certified as well. I can help students formulate their essays in a clear and concise way. I mentored my peers in writing in my college newspaper and magazine for a few years, so I've edited many papers and helped my peers become better writers and story tellers.
Spanish Tutoring
I have many fun ways of helping a student remember vocabulary words, numbers and sounds of Spanish words. Many of these I learned during my own time as a young student that stuck with me to this day. I try to make learning a new language as fun and exciting for new learners while making sure they are improving.
Reading Tutoring
I tutored my younger brother in reading for a couple summers, which resulted in him eventually catching up to his peers as he was very behind due to his learning disabilities. Reading is one of the most valuable skills for young learners, so it's crucial to help them maintain interest and continue improving their reading skills.
Conversational Spanish Tutoring
I practice conversational Spanish on my own at least a few times a week and can switch my level of Spanish depending who I am speaking with. Speaking the language is my favorite way to utilize Spanish and there are many ways to make this fun and less nerve-racking. For years, I was too shy to speak so I understand that feeling and would be very aware of that during the lesson.
