Fun Facts
I would say that I am most passionate about learning. Trying, doing, and even sometimes failing at something new keeps me motivated to try harder. In the past year I have tried to teach myself how to snowboard, learned how to teach yoga, and I have most recently been attempting some self-guided chemistry courses. I am currently working on my second master's degree.
I am the oldest child in my family, all of us grew up in a pretty close knit family in New England. I'm the first one to move away
About Me
Currently, I am starting my second MS in integrative medical research at NCNM. I completed my first MS in Nutrition last year through connecticut/bridgeport">bridgeport">University of connecticut/bridgeport">Bridgeport and quickly found that I enjoyed doing research so much that I wanted to start a career in it. Since I completed my BA in Psychology back in 2008, I've known I wanted to become an educator, so hopefully I will be able to work my way into teaching at the college level so I can pursue being an educator and researcher at the same time!
I started out as a mentor in a peer mentoring program when I was in high school. I liked it so much that when I went to undergrad, I elected to do my community service hours in a portland">tutoring program in the inner city of Roanoke. Post-graduation, I had a hard time finding work in the mental health field during the recession so I applied to be a substitute teacher for the Manchester NH school district. Eventually, I found work in the mental health field as a Residential Instructor. Every day I worked with displaced young boys, teaching them the various aspects of independent living.
Have fun! Just because it's school, doesn't mean it has to be boring. Sometimes all you need is a different approach to making the information click. I've struggled with some learning difficulties myself, and I've found that usually the best way to make sense of it all is to put it into terms that the learner understands best and then make it less of a chore to learn. Having an educator that is passionate about the subject helps a great deal too.
