Fun Facts

I'm a native New Yorker (or Noo Yawka as we like to say around here) with a penchant for cooking, reading, urban exploration, and wine tasting. I grew up in lower Westchester County - about 30 minutes north of midtown Manhattan - and now reside in semi-rural Dutchess County with my wife, son, and a menagerie of pets who are kind enough to let us live with them. My favorite travel destination is the American Southwest (especially Arizona); I hope to live there someday!

About Me

I'm a tenured associate professor of psychology at a small liberal arts college in New York. I have a PhD in industrial-organizational psychology, and mainly teach courses in statistics and research methods for both undergraduate and graduate students. My biggest strength is my relentless desire to make complex ideas and concepts easy to understand for even the most apprehensive students. I value communication and seek to establish good rapport with my students and their support people.

Experience

I've been teaching at the post-secondary level since 2004, and at the graduate level since 2012. I also have taught fully online, asynchronous courses since late 2015. I've tutored on and off since 2005, and have worked with students of all ages and academic abilities in that time.

Approach

I use a holistic approach to tutoring. I start by learning as much as I can about my students and what brought them to tutoring in the first place. I want to find out what hasn't worked for them in the past for the sake of not repeating techniques that clearly aren't helpful. Once I get a good sense of areas that need to be targeted, I can develop an individualized, tailored instructional approach that will work with each student's unique learning style and needs.
