Fun Facts

Before deciding to major in History, I was a music composition major and a guitarist in several bands. I was awarded two full scholarships for my compositions, and I was recognized for my outstanding performance in music theory. My other hobbies include reading, writing, cooking, and the occasional strategy game.

About Me

I graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, a minor in Government, and college of Liberal Arts Honors. My overall GPA was 3.53 with a GPA of 3.69 in my major. I was president of Texas Rootstrikers while a student, which provided me the opportunity to give a speech at the Texas state capitol. I intend to pursue a Ph.D. in History and a career as a professor.

I gave private guitar lessons for two years to children age 9 to 14. I developed the lesson plans according to the progress of the student each week, and tailored the lessons to the student's personal goals. Moreover, the honors courses I took during undergrad provided me with substantial experience in editing papers, and I was often sought by fellow students and friends for assistance in preparing for exams.

When meeting a student for the first time, I take the time to learn their interests. This approach was particularly beneficial when I taught guitar because it helped me create lesson plans tailored to that student's goals. I believe that it is important to relate whatever subject a student studies to their personal interest to engage them in the subject. When it comes to the study of history, I emphasize developing the story of events and the ideas rather than just drilling dates. People internalize history better when they can tell it as a story, and people gain a greater understanding of the significance of the dates they are required to memorize. Also, I try not to give a student answers, rather I try to guide them to the correct answer.
