Fun Facts

I am obsessed with languages! I love analyzing sounds and sentence structures, but also learning about the culture and history of native speakers. My life goal is to become fluent in at least five languages.

About Me

I am a second-year student at University of California -- Berkeley majoring in Political Science and Spanish, while also considering a Theater or Journalism minor. After graduating, I plan on pursuing a career in either diplomacy, law, or journalism.

Experience

In earlier high school years, I unofficially tutored some friends who were in lower-level math classes than I was. As a freshman in college, I co-founded a mentoring program for high school seniors in order to help with college applications during COVID-19. I helped students with their essays mostly, but realized that I would love putting my love for other subjects to use and mentor younger students.

Approach

During middle school, all of my Math teachers seemed to not care about our understanding of the subject and move from topic to topic disregarding our struggles. This caused me to resent the subject. Luckily, I had a family friend who was a mathematical genius and she began tutoring me using a compassionate and patient approach. When tutoring, I feel it is important to listen to the students' needs and be patient throughout their learning process.

Spanish I Tutoring

Spanish is one of my majors at UC Berkeley. Throughout high school, I took Spanish I-III and earned a 5 on the AP Spanish test. I am currently taking upper division courses taught completely in Spanish. Although I do not have any direct experience tutoring Spanish, because I am Romanian, I have tutored some of my Romanian friends in English. I believe the process of tutoring languages is similar despite the differences between English and Spanish.

Spanish II Tutoring

Pre Algebra Tutoring

In high school, Math was always one of my strong suits, having taken Calculus BC and passing the AP test with a 5. Since then, I have had to tutor my brother in law with more elemental math courses such as Algebra or Pre-Calculus. Therefore, even though in college I am not constantly studying Math, I have still had exposure to different kinds of math courses through tutoring.

English Tutoring

English has generally been one of my favorite subjects because I love reading and writing. During high school, I was always enrolled in honors courses which led me to take and pass both AP English course (Language and Composition; Literature). I have also been told by multiple friends that I am good at editing their essays.

ESL Tutoring

As English is my second-language, I have first-hand experience with ESL. Not only that, but my mother tutors ESL students and I have been helping her with that process as she often second-guesses her English skills.
