I am proud to say that I am a published poet. My writing has won awards and recognition both in college and in small presses in California, Michigan and New Jersey. Over the past few years, I've maintained a blog, and I continue to write whenever I'm inspired.
About Me
I live in Wheeling, Illinois. In 2002 I graduated from elmhurst-college">Elmhurst College with a BA in English. It wasn't easy, but I maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated summa cum laude. My family and friends often describe me as kind, intelligent and detail-oriented. I love the Chicago Cubs, but am still waiting for a World Series championship in my lifetime.
My chicago">tutoring experience includes working with both college and high school students. At the college level, I've helped students write better essays and thesis-driven papers, while at the high school level, I've done some ACT prep and assisted with college entrance essays. I also worked with an adult in my community who passed his citizenship exam on the first attempt. Currently I serve as a volunteer ESL chicago">tutor for adults at Wheeling High School.
When I meet a new student, I first try to connect with him or her on a personal level. Trust is something I value. Once I've determined the student's strengths and areas in need of improvement, I work to challenge the learner without overwhelming him or her. Reviewing past material and what the student is confident in, helps in the introducing of more difficult tasks. All throughout the chicago">tutoring and mentoring process, I try to have fun while getting the student to learn. Often we focus on more than just the coursework, as beneath the surface we work on becoming both better students and people.
