Fun Facts

I love teaching and working with kids. In my free time, I write poetry and songs because I sing. I also visit people who are sick and do community service with my church (such as homeless shelters and nursing homes). Currently, I'm learning how to crochet so I can make clothes. I have great interpersonal skills, thus I am a people person and am very sociable and interactive. Being fluent in Haitian-Creole has been an advantage for me and I love knowing about different cultures beside my own.

About Me

Hello there! My name is Esther Nelson. I recently graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor's in Science. I am furthering my education to go to graduate school. My strengths are in the sciences and arithmetic sections. Currently, I am a note-taker and I help students at Hunter College who have a disability by taking notes for them and encouraging them. Also, if it's necessary I help them with their homework and class activities on my off time.

Edward R. Murrow High School was the first place I began helping people who were struggling with a subject. I tutored this girl who was in an algebra class that I had previously taken before. Not so long ago, I helped an 8th grader to study for her NYS Math Test. Successfully, she passed it and now is currently attending High School. Recently, I tutored a college student in Organic Chemistry I and II (which are upper level science courses in preparation for medical school).

For learning, I create a fun atmosphere so students can learn at their utmost potential. Strategies that I use are mnemonics, acronyms, and even songs to memorize and enjoy what they're learning. All of my prior experiences have helped me develop patience, organizational skills, and help me become a reliable person. I believe that I will be able to improve scores and studying techniques not only in school, but also in life as a whole.
