Fun Facts

A daring fun fact about me is that I love to listen to classical music for fun. It relaxes me and sometimes I pretend that the music is the soundtrack to the life happening in front of my eyes; especially when I am driving. I fell in love with this music after I meet a man who has become like a father to me. He loves it so much and at first I thought it strange but as I begun to listen to it as well, I too saw the beauty in it. I like to alternate between just the classical instruments and opera

About Me

I am currently a graduate student at University of California. My area of study is TESOL(teaching English to speakers of other languages), and I am in my final year here. Initially, I did my undergraduate studies in Economics in a CSU before I found my passion was teaching and academically grooming the minds of learning individuals. I am a woman, born and raised in Nigeria, and I am married to a man who is also Nigerian. I have very strong family values and I love that about me.

Experience

My educational assistance experience started when I was still in high school. I was an active member of The Key club and we sometimes engaged in activities that warranted us being of academic assistance to our fellow students. In college I was employed by a program who offered tutors to the neighboring high schools around our college; it was a work study program. When I graduated I taught in a local Nigerian school for a year before heading back to California to be a SPED teacher.

Approach

My first encounter with the American school system wasn't very smooth. After enrollment, I noticed I was placed in a classroom where I was academically ahead of my peers; it was IEP/EFL/ESL classroom. The assumption was that since I was a transfer student from Africa (Nigeria), I couldn't possibly know much, or even speak/write/understand English. This made me uncomfortable and upset so I insisted on taking the exam, I passed it, and ended up in AP classes. I want to help student with no voice.
