Fun Facts

I grew up in NYC, but I've lived in Scotland, England, and Norway! Last year I had a lot of fun writing the police blotter for a Long Island newspaper, The East Hampton Star. This fall, I finished the giant novel Clarissa, which was such a rewarding challenge and taught me new things as a reader. I'm starting an MFA in Fiction at University of Virginia in a couple of months and am really excited.

About Me

I'm a fiction writer with an M.A. from the chicago">University of Chicago and will start my MFA at University of Virginia this fall. My thesis for my MA degree was a few chapters from the novel I'm working on. I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2017 with a B.A. in English Literature and Classics. I've also worked as a magazine writer in London for Harper's Bazaar, House & Garden, and Country & Town House, plus most recently as a reporter and features writer for The East Hampton Star

Experience

I've been tutoring in English and editing essays since I graduated college. As a member of various writing workshops at the chicago">University of Chicago, I've intensively worked with my peers on their writing samples, giving feedback and line edits. I excel in guiding conversation productively to help the writer get where she needs to go in her work. In past tutoring, an eighth grade student of mine ended up scoring the highest in the class on her English final after being bottom of the class all year.

Approach

As a journalist, I've learned that the best place to start a story is where it sticks! When beginning any writing or reading assignment, we will decide what feels important about the work and what aspect of it stays with us after we get up from the desk. From there, we will use that spark to drive our exploration. At the "I don't get it" parts, I like the question "What do you know about it?" That question is an exciting learning tool because it helps find a student's individual way in.
