Fun Facts

I am pretty obsessed with soccer, I spend an ungodly amount of time watching it, and then listen to people argue about analysis about it, and playing it myself (pretty badly unfortunately though). It's pretty cool the statistical sophistication that the analysis has gotten to, and I've recently began getting all into that kind of stuff.

About Me

I am a sophomore at Washington University in St. Louis, where I intend on majoring in Statistics. I completed my associates from portland community college while in highschool. After my bachelors, I plan on staying for another year to earn my masters in statistics and work as a data scientist in a big tech company.

Experience

Last summer I worked as a camp counselor at a baseball camp where I got a lot of experience working with mostly middle schoolers, the range was 2nd to 8th grade. I learned there how important it is, and a lot of different ways to catch and bring sustained attention onto the subject of my choice in large groups of kids. While I lack formal tutoring experience, in my first year of college and throughout high school I've always been the go to guy for math help and will explain concepts.

Approach

In my personal experience I've found listening to the person you're working with, and acting based off of that is the path to success. When dealing with a large group of kids, if they're being a little rowdy, I'd try to ask them what they'd like to do and relate it to the prepared activity. In terms of my informal tutoring experience, it means really figuring out what aspect the student is struggling with. I like to begin by asking them to explain what you do understand and move from there.
