About Me

Learning is a lifelong process and employs learning in real-life applications. As stated by Peter M. Senge, "Learning does not mean acquiring more information, but expanding the ability to produce the results we genuinely want in life. It is a lifelong generative learning" (Peter M. Senge, The Fifth Discipline: New York, NY, 2006). I define this learning process as teaching with a purpose and helping students learn through encouraging contributions and participation. I have set three goals for myself as a teacher. The first is to keep up to date with current accounting changes and challenges. Second, I use the feedback from students and teachers to improve my class instruction, which makes my teaching more adaptable to student needs. Lastly, I make myself available to any student in need of assistance via email, online meetings, and/or phone calls to aid the learning process. Finally, I find joy in helping students meet their educational needs and helping them succeed wherever their learning takes them.

Experience

I am an Associate Professor and the faculty lead for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Accountancy (MAcc) graduate programs and one of the content experts for the undergraduate accounting major at Ottawa University. I am responsible for teaching and developing ground and online curricula in accounting and general business areas, integrating technology into the classroom, assessing student outcomes, and assisting and training faculty.

Approach

As an educator, my approach centers on learning as a lifelong process and employing learning in real life. Thus, my primary goal as a professor/tutor is to assist students in understanding accounting concepts through examples, critical-thinking discussions, and providing the opportunity to learn in a comfortable environment. I take a more conversational approach to help students become more engaged in the learning process. I focus on merging relevance with the subject matter.
