Fun Facts

Professionally, I am passionate about molecular biology and global health, but as a human being, I am passionate about learning and speaking in different languages, practicing analog (film) photography, trying new cuisines, and following/playing tennis. I also enjoy hiking, watching movies, and experimenting with various coffee brewing methods.

About Me

I graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in biochemistry and molecular biology in 2018 and completed a master of public health degree at UConn in 2021. I then started in the UConn MD-PhD program, where I am currently studying to become a physician-scientist. My ultimate goal is to utilize my training in public health, biological sciences, and medicine to bring sustainable health care models to marginalized communities around the globe.

Experience

Teaching is one of my greatest passions. I have tutored both peers and younger students in advance science and language courses. I have faith that no one is naturally "bad” at any subject! And I take it upon myself to demonstrate this through their very own learning process. Since I am a lifelong student myself and have taken these classes relatively recently (compared to some older PhDs or degree-holders), I bring a fresh perspective and personal account of how I tackled my courses.

Approach

I have always had to work very hard to succeed, having never been a student of *naturally* high IQ or genius. I recognize the obstacles to being the best student. My most valuable advice to students is to really struggle though a topic/problem/writing assignment, to get help along the way, and to try really hard before expecting results. As a tutor, I consider it my duty to make my students realize the simplest way to solve a problem by catering to their own learning style and learner type.

Spanish I Tutoring

I have never received below an A in my Spanish classes throughout high school and college. My passion for Spanish, and languages in general stretches far beyond the classroom. I am always willing to travel and experience new cultures. I truly believe that the best way to learn a language is through actual conversation and immersion. Having spent a semester studying in Madrid, I have seen first-hand how my understanding of the language's mechanics improved.
Fun fact: I am proudly fluent in four other languages--Marathi, my mother tongue; Hindi, India's national language; Sanskrit, with more of an understanding ability, and English, of course!

Physics I Tutoring

Physics was an uphill battle, well-conquered! I always struggled in Physics despite the fact that I excelled at all other sciences. Having the goal to become a doctor my whole life, it was a defeat to me that I could not understand Physics with ease. However, in college, I told myself that it was "now or never". I struggled through every homework assignment independently and went to every office hours, and "voila!", my exams all came back with As! It was an a'ha moment to me that if you try, try, and practice, anything is possible! And I am willing 100% to share my tips, tricks and secret advice to succeeding in physics with all my clients!

Chemistry II Tutoring

Although chemistry may seem daunting, it is the perfect balance of biology and physics. It always fascinates me how the laws of chemistry were defined and established in the first place. As a pre-medical student, I am flabbergasted by the relevance of chemistry in the medical field: in physiology, surgery, pharmacy, etc.

As a biochemistry and molecular biology major, I am currently doing novel and groundbreaking research in a biochemistry lab. To see how everything from acidity, Le Chatlier's principle and the gas laws apply to my experiments daily is incredible. As a tutor, I will make sure the student realizes these fascinating tenets of chemistry!

Biology AP Tutoring

My passion for biology can be seen by the fact that I received an A in college biology and a 5 on the high school AP biology exam. It is one of my favorite sciences and fields of interest. It is incredible to me how different mechanisms in nature exist at so many different levels: from the chloroplasts in a eucalyptus tree to the cells in our neural tube. I currently do research in a biochemistry lab on G-proteins, and to be able to stay in touch with biology through tutoring is a gift because it reminds me of the fundamentals of such an interesting subject.

Science Tutoring

I remember I would always be extra-excited to go to school on days when I had science class. There was always something very exciting about the prospect of learning about the laws of nature and seeing them play out in the form of an experiment.
As ardent supporter of STEM education, I believe every student has the responsibility, and should have the privilege, to study science.
As a member of the National Honor Society in high school, I had the wonderful opportunity to tutor middle and high school students in the sciences. It was always exciting for me to share the knowledge of the world around us.

Conversational Spanish Tutoring

I have always had a great passion for speaking and learning languages. I started learning Spanish in the fifth grade as my fourth language. Fast-forward to ten years later and I chose to take three separate Spanish literature courses in college only because I wanted to continue exploring the beauty of the language. I received As in all three.
My sophomore year of college, I had the privilege of spending a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain, where I took courses at a Spanish university, lived with a Spanish host family, and traveled all across the Iberian peninsula.

I hope to continue sharing my passion of the language by tutoring in conversational Spanish.

Biochemistry Tutoring

Whether I am in a classroom or at a dinner party, I am always in the mood to geek out about biochemistry! As a biochemistry major and researcher, the subject is a perfect balance of chemical phenomena and biological systems.
I have taken both advanced college courses in biochemistry (I&II) and received A range grades in both.
Nonetheless, it is a subject that is so vast and quickly evolving. It is always a pleasure for me to share tips and tricks to approach biochemical concepts.
