Fun Facts
I was born in Germany and grew up bi-lingual. I love doing arts and crafts and keeping up with my Etsy page. I also enjoy spending time with my two dogs, Amelia and Betty White. I have two high school stepdaughters, who unfortunately don't live with me, however, I love being a bonus mom and role model to them. I also love jigsaw puzzles, brain games, and building Legos.
About Me
Upon graduating from VMI, I joined the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Aviation branch. My Army career took me from my hometown of Winchester, Virginia to southern Alabama, central Germany, and springs">Colorado Springs, Colorado. My 8 years of Army service concluded in July 2023 and I have my Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I am currently teaching k-2 Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE).
Experience
I am a k-2 Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) teacher. I served as a Cadet Peer springs">Tutor in German in my free time. During my sophomore year at VMI, I was allowed to study abroad for a semester at the Helmut Schmidt Bundeswehr University in Hamburg, Germany. In my junior and senior years of college, I took two trips to Guatemala over spring break to serve as an interpreter on a medical missions trip. While stationed in Germany for 3 years I helped soldiers & families.
Approach
From a young age, standing in front of my Fisher Price easel, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I thoroughly enjoy helping others and seeing the satisfaction and pride on students' faces when they've learned something new or something they didn't understand before. I also enjoy learning about other cultures and ensuring others feel welcome and a member of the group.

MastersESL Tutoring
I completed the CELTA course in March 2022 which taught me how to teach the English language to non-native English speakers (primarily native Spanish speakers). This course allowed me to teach the students online through Zoom and prepared me for the challenges that come with online teaching.
I am currently working on my master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Some of the TESOL courses include topics such as parent and community involvement, literacy for all learners, and phonology & morphology. As a trilingual speaker, I use my own personal experiences of learning another language as well as experiences with the students I tutor to best teach my students.
I am passionate about teaching and helping others and rejoice in "lightbulb" or "ah ha" moments with my students!
Conversational German Tutoring
I am a native German speaker. My mother taught me conversational German throughout my life and I studied the German language and culture formally at the Virginia Military Institute and the Helmut Schmidt Bundeswehr Universitaet. I tested out of the 100 and 200 level German courses at VMI and had a 3.7 GPA in my German language and culture courses. These courses included topics such as Germany and Austria, contemporary German culture, resistance in Nazi Germany, as well as a German literature course focusing on authors Kafka, Hesse and Boell. While at VMI, I tutored classmates throughout my cadetship in German as a cadet peer educator. I lived in Germany for three years with the Army and continued to improve my knowledge of the German language and culture.
German Tutoring
I studied both German and Spanish in my undergraduate time, receiving enough credits to have a degree in both languages. Combining my experience learning German throughout my childhood and my formal education of German grammar, literature and culture (as well as my ESL education through the CELTA and MA-TESOL) qualify me to teach German at the high school level.
Reading Tutoring
I am Certified in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). This includes experience teaching reading, writing, and listening skills to multi-lingual adults in person and online.
Currently teaching at a k-8 community school as a CLDE teacher for grades k-5. I work with culturally and linguistically diverse (CLDE) students daily on phonology, reading, writing, and listening. In addition to teaching, I am also tasked with assessing the students' progress throughout the school year.

Passed K-5 Social Studies Praxis exam with a score of 163 (the average performance range is 154-176).
Science Tutoring
Passed K-5 Science Praxis exam with a score of 169 (the average performance range is 158-177).
Reading Tutoring
I served as a long-term substitute for the k-5 reading interventionist at Mountain Vista Community School from March 1 - May 25 2023.
Passed K-5 Teaching Reading Praxis exam with a score of 179 (the average performance range is 160-174).

Passed K-5 Math Praxis exam with a score of 177 (the average performance range is 154-183).
