About Me
I'm a scientist, English teacher, and historian. Archaeology is a great field of study that allows for trajectories in all of these directions. It's also allowed me to travel the globe and absorb a variety of cultures. I now live in Florida.
Experience
While I do research archaeology with the best of the best, I was an ESL teacher in the US and Japan for over two decades. During the pandemic, I halted my research at Oxford and tutored all social studies subjects at the Middle and High School levels for over a year in northern California. I have just finished writing up my doctoral thesis on the archaeology of Japanese feudal ports in both Japan and Florida. I have helped students individually since the 1980s and am good at what I do.
Approach
Having both taught Social Studies and English, I am happy to say that I have reaped rewarding results on all fronts for my students. Most of these positive results have tended to materialize from both in-class emotive response and achievement to actual post-course motivation in the students’ further pursuit of knowledge and reasoning, basically through tweaking their curiosity.
