A few of my passions are: learning chess strategy, conversing in Spanish and French with native speakers, and reading the classics, i.e., War & Peace, Crime & Punishment, and Paul’s Epistles; And, in the near future, I would like to take piano lessons again.

About Me

I am an Attorney with many years of experience in the legal profession - with an emphasis on Civil Trial work, Brief writing, and Litigation. I have an excellent command of the English language - both written and oral. Now that I am retired from Trial work, I enjoy cultivating these skills in others. Therefore, I offer my teaching services to help others develop and improve their reading, writing, and comprehension skills in the English language.

Experience

I have taught at various stages in my career. During my stay in Spain, I taught English to Spanish-speaking adults. Here in the United States, I teach seniors in high school. And I also tutor older adults studying for the GED and citizenship. I can tutor all subjects. However, I command the English language.

Approach

I take a direct approach when teaching or tutoring. First, I assess the student's level of competence in English. Some students speak well but spell poorly. Others need assistance with grammar and punctuation. Once I make an assessment, I design a course of study. There is a book by Strunk and White titled The Elements of Style. I use this resource quite often. It is an excellent study guide. Therefore, my approach starts with the very basics and develops the student gradually.
