Fun Facts
My passion is reading children’s literature. I’ve read all of the Newbery Medal Winners since 1945 and collect books that have won the Caldecott Award. My favorite punctuation symbol is the semicolon.
About Me
I’m intellectually curious and love learning for its own sake. I’m a flexible thinker, enjoy creative problem-solving, and delight in exploring ideas from a variety of perspectives. I am very resourceful, a strong multitasker, and highly empathetic.
Experience
I have tutored privately for over 15 years. I’m experienced in assessing students, bringing them to grade level, and meeting their needs for acceleration. I’m familiar with most current curricula and have facilitated students being accepted into some of the most elite private high schools (Choate, Andover, Kent) and colleges (Northwestern, Harvard) in the country through test/interview preparation and essay writing.
Approach
My approach is to build on a child’s strengths and to communicate high expectations while also supporting them with the tools they need to meet success. I believe in modeling and manipulatives to build conceptual and procedural understanding in math, mentor texts for reading and writing, and think-aloud strategies for higher-order reading comprehension skills. I also believe in direct instruction and the science of reading for emerging readers. I believe that children develop a joy for learning
