Fun Facts

I'm a scientist but I also play the harp. I have professional music gigs in downtown Tucson and book private parties as well. I'm also very active and have another part time job in an adventure education program for youth.

About Me

I graduated from the University of Arizona in the summer of 2014 with a 4.0. I have a master's of science degree in entomology (insects). Prior to going to graduate school I earned a bachelor's of science in biology at Cedar Crest College, an all women's liberal arts institute where I maintained a 3.8.

My plans for the near future are to travel more and take time to practice my harp. Ultimately I would like to balance being a musician and a youth educator.

I have 1.5 years of teaching experience at the University of Arizona. I have been an instructor for the introductory biology labs (MCB 181L) at UA for 2 semesters. I also taught K-3 grade in a science outreach program called Insect Discovery there for one semester.

Furthermore, I am employed part time at a outdoor adventure program that teaches field science to students in 6-12 grade. I work with teachers in the Tucson area to design curriculum to be presented in the field that matches with their teaching goals in science classrooms.

In college, I tutored clinical microbiology as well as computer literacy skills for one year.

As a student myself I learned best when my teachers were enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject matter. I have a passion for my field demonstrated by my recent master's degree. Science can feel dense at times and it is my goal to show students how interesting it can be underneath all the jargon.

I try to bring student's to their own conclusions by asking prompting questions and I am comfortable waiting for the answer while they process their thoughts. I have many applied examples of how what students learn in the classroom is relevant to the world and by sharing them I hope to inspire students to enjoy learning.
