So, I am someone who loves to play with language and enjoys making people laugh.
About Me
I am a graduating senior at New Dorp High School, studying Business and Corporations. I will be attending university this fall to pursue a major in Business.
Experience
I have two years of experience working as a tutor for children ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade. Currently, I work as a youth empowerment specialist, where I focus on guiding and supporting older kids to help them stay on track toward achieving their goals.
Approach
I have a strong desire to become a teacher because I have personally experienced how bad teaching can affect a student's understanding of a subject. I don't want any student to have a weak spot in any subject just because of bad teaching. I believe in treating students the way I would want to be treated and bringing a smile to their faces. My goal as a teacher is to make learning a fun experience for students so that they enjoy the process and do not develop a hatred for any subject.

Reading Tutoring
To effectively teach reading, teachers must possess various skills such as phonemic awareness, which is the ability to comprehend the relationship between sounds and letters. They should be able to break down words into their component sounds and explain how these sounds are represented in writing. Additionally, teachers must be knowledgeable in reading strategies, including predicting, visualizing, questioning, and summarizing, which can help students comprehend and retain information. They should also be able to use differentiated instruction to meet individual students' needs, considering their unique learning styles and strengths. Furthermore, teaching reading requires patience and persistence as it is a gradual process, especially for students who struggle with reading. Effective reading teachers must also have a passion for reading and literature, which they can share with their students to cultivate lifelong reading habits. In summary, a combination of skills including phonemic awareness, knowledge of reading strategies, differentiated instruction, patience and persistence, and a passion for reading, are crucial in teaching reading effectively. Teachers who possess these skills can help their students develop essential literacy skills needed to succeed in school and beyond.
