Fun Facts
I love cats, cooking and baking, reading, and writing, and spending time with my friends and family. I'm also a huge lover of poetry, both reading and writing it.
About Me
I am a recent graduate from SUNY Oswego, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in English and Creative Writing. I'm taking a wee break from education at the moment, but I eventually plan to pursue a Master's Degree in Library Sciences to become a librarian!
Experience
While I worked towards my Bachelor's degree at Oswego, I spent my junior and senior years as a Peer Writing Tutor in the campus's Office of Learning Services. Students could book me for help in writing for any subject, from my own specialties English and Creative Writing to Biology or Native American Studies. I loved working with students from any subject, and I often learned as much from them as they did from me! I also helped many peers outside of professional tutoring.
Approach
My motto while tutoring is always to encourage first and last. During my time in the Office of Learning Services, students often came to me with low confidence in their writing skills, and I noticed the common origin was discouraging teachers and mentors. Some people's teachers told them outright they were bad writers! I strive in all my tutoring sessions to be an encouraging presence in students' lives, guiding them to their own conclusions and pointing out growth and change as it happens.

English and Creative Writing
English Tutoring
I majored in English and took notable courses such as: Literary Criticism, Shakespeare, Gothic Literature, Writing about Literature, Ethnicity and Cultural Differences in Literature, etc. I also spent a lot of time tutoring students in many of these courses.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
Most of the English courses I took in college were related in some way to literature, and I read and analyzed both classic (Shakespeare, Poe) and contemporary (Jhumpa Lahiri, Maya Angelou, MartÃn Espada) literature from a variety of authors. My professors had high praise for my connections and conclusions.
Study Skills Tutoring
As someone with a neurodivergent brain, I spent many years attempting lots of different avenues of organization and study. I found ways that work for me, and I sampled so many different techniques that I would be able to help students decide what's right for them!
Writing Tutoring
In addition to a degree in English where I did much academic and analytical writing, I also majored in Creative Writing with a focus on fiction and poetry. I love writing in all three of these fields, and I also have a small amount of experience with creative nonfiction, as well as tutoring academic writing in several other fields.
Literature Tutoring
I've been a voracious reader all my life, and in college (as mentioned in the reading comprehension section) I studied a wide variety of literature from a wide variety of authors. Analyzing literature (and other things like film and video game media) through a critical lens is something I engage in on a daily basis and I would love to help students who struggle with it!
AP English Tutoring
While my high school did not offer AP English, I received a 100% on my English Regents in my junior year of high school and took elective English courses my senior year. I would love to work with AP students on gaps in their understanding of literature, analysis, and any other areas they struggle with.
Reading Tutoring
As someone who reads as a primary hobby, I love to discuss my love with anyone and everyone who will listen. In addition to passion, I also have experience working with students whose primary language is not English, and in these situations a main focus was on reading and writing in English. If a student needs someone to slow down and listen to them on their level when it comes to reading, I'm more than happy to do so!
