About Me

I started at a 4-year university but then found the beauty of community college before returning for electrical engineering. Enjoy comparing America to other great empires and reading up on theology and philosophy. I am looking forward to helping students have perspective at school and take ownership of their classes. See the applications to life and the excitement behind STEAM classes.

Experience

I went through American schooling and am proficient in STEAM classes. I enjoy slowing down and really digging into the history behind what we are learning as well as comparing systems. Where did the 10-based number system come from? How does America compare to Britain to Mameluke Empire and the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire?

Approach

I had to learn how to teach while in China. It was a crash course. I learned the beauty of putting in the large/good work of creating a Montessori-type environment where students learn how to work on a variety of activities and the teacher is a 'guide'. For example, in China with kindergartners, I created a modular floor map city with different roads and building sections that could be combined. Then I had the Chinese students make their own city, learn the associated English, and have one stude

I have worked with AutoCAD since the late 80s. I have attended Autodesk trainings and continue to use it at my current day job. I know the basics, snapping, dimensioning, paper-space, hot keys, and some advanced functions. I am good at 2D.

Chinese Tutoring

I lived in PR China for over a year 2007-2008 and returned each December through 2011. In 2009 I took Chinese language community college classes. I had a language teacher while in PR China and taught English at a preschool. When I left China I could read most basic writings and understood conversations by ear.

Hebrew Tutoring

I read Hebrew and have been honored to learn about the concrete approach of this language: truly different than abstract Greek thought. (Just take the concept of 'sprit' for instance.) I focus on reading biblical Hebrew and don't speak the language too much. I was apart of a Messianic congregation for years that included native Jewish/Christian speakers.

Religion Tutoring

I am a recovering theist with an appreciation for the pantheistic non-dual. I went to bible school and actually made it through the bible. I am a student of Hebrew. My theological heroes are CS Lewis, George MacDonald, JRR Tolkien, Gandhi, Thomas Merton, early church fathers, and most romantics in general. I taught Native American stories at a tribal school for a summer. Many of my friends have different beliefs that I have enjoyed respecting and learning about as well. I think I would be a good teacher for learning the types of beliefs and history. I am apart of some charismatic groups that are not afraid to attempt to experience the divine as well.
