Fun Facts

I am a tuba/sousaphone player, and I have been playing since I was in fourth grade. I have done classical, jazz, and brass bands, as well as pit orchestras. I am also hyper-flexible! I have two dogs named Max and Artemis. I love to draw, bake, and cook, and take long walks in pretty areas. I am an avid listener of music and podcasts, and I often listen while I am doing those things.

About Me

I am a second-year at Knox College with a major in Studio Art and a double minor in Peace and Justice Studies and Social Services. I care deeply about working to increase equality and equity across all sectors of society. I am planning on potentially going on to get a Master's in Art Therapy in another similar field, and I hope to eventually work with youth and use art to give people a voice.

Experience

I work as a writing tutor at my college, and I was also a writing and math tutor in my junior and senior years of high school. In addition, I have worked at a summer camp for the past two years, which has given me the extensive opportunity to work with children from a variety of different age groups. This past summer, I served as the Counselor-In-Training director, which allowed me to further develop my leadership skills for working with young people.

Approach

I am deeply passionate about education and making it accessible and approachable for everyone. I believe that the best way to tutor is to begin by affirming the tutee's strengths and abilities because this can be empowering and help improve self-esteem. Of course, it is also incredibly important to provide constructive feedback, and when I do this, I try to do it in a way that further empowers the student to take control of their own work and to understand that what they have to say is valuable
