Fun Facts

One passion people quickly learn about me is that I love learning about new cultures: whether in the context of new languages, different religions, or food (especially food), I'm always fascinated. When I'm not needing out as such, then I'm geeking out with video games, card games, etc. I also sang and acted all throughout high school in choruses, acapella groups and musicals.

About Me

I graduated this past May from American University in Washington, DC with a BA in Psychology and a self-desigined interdisciplinary BA in psychology, political science, international relations and religious studies. I intend this fall to attend an MA program in one of the later subjects abroad, most likely in Europe. I want to work in conflict resolution, diplomacy, or security.

Experience

I started boston">tutoring upperclassmen as a freshman in my Western Philosophy class in high school. I've been boston">tutoring for over 8 years since then in all major subjects and tests with all ages, though primarily middle and high schoolers. I used to find clients through word of mouth, then through resources like Care.com, and now I contract with companies like FrogTutoring. I've worked with one kid for one hour a week, and with whole families for 10+ hours a week.

Approach

I see boston">tutoring not as pure pedantry, but as a constructive process. I work with the student and parent(s) (if involved) to determine what has worked best and worst for the student in the past and how, as a team, we can all help the student perform better. Half of boston">tutoring usually is mediation between parents and students; I work hard to bring parents and students on the same side of the fence. As for academics, I usually apply a multilateral teaching approach until I determine what works best.
