About Me

I have been in education for over 20 years. I graduated from the University of Nevad-Reno as a scholar-athlete with a degree in Criminal Justice. Not sure what I was going to do next, I obtained a job working at a juvenile offender program in Nevada as a coach/counselor. The senior staff quickly recognized my innate ability to establish rapport with many of the students in the program. When I moved back to California in the early 2000s, I got a job at a non-public school; NPS, working with students with various disabilities as a paraprofessional. There, the staff again recognized my abilities and suggested I look into becoming a teacher. For a while, I was content, then I took the leap. I took the CBEST, passed, and received my emergency teaching credential. From there, I worked as a education/california/elk-grove">Special Education Teacher and later obtained my teaching credential from Sacramento State University.

Experience

I am a credentialed education/california/elk-grove">Special Education Teacher holding a mild/moderate, multiple-subject credential. I have worked in the non-public school setting for the majority of my career. I have been a paraprofessional, teacher, lead teacher, and assistant director, and currently, I am the director at a non-public school serving the needs of students with various disabilities.

Approach

I am always trying to find ways to better myself as an educator. Students come with a variety of needs and personality. I feel I am adaptable, flexible, fun, yet driven to help students achieve success. I believe if the student does not have the skill yet, it is my job to help them obtain the skill. Of course, the student has to put forth the effort and that is my expectation.
