Fun Facts

I’ve danced for 8 years of my life. Even now, I go to rented studios with my friend and learn and practice dances just for the fun and exercise.

About Me

I am a sophomore in college at The New School. My major is Global Studies and I minor in politics. I plan on working into the MA program for International Relations. I’m from Miami, FL, but moved to New York for college.

Experience

My official tutoring experience started in high school. As a National Honor Society member, I had to complete hours of service, so I personally chose to tutor kids at the after school program at our sister school, St. Francis of Xavier. They ranged between kindergarten to middle school. Now, I currently volunteer at MASA in The Bronx—which specifically offers academic help to students, as well as teaching them about social justice aspects.

Approach

My parents did not believe in tutors growing up. If I needed help, they’d expect me to either go to the teacher, or ask them themselves. I found myself helping out people the more time that passed, even if I didn’t have the same class as my peers. I know that there are many children that struggle with these subjects that seem impossible, and that’s why it keeps me motivated to become a tutor.

AP English Tutoring

I took AP English (and took the AP Lang exam and passed) in high school. I had a 96 and a 95 for the two semesters. My degree deals with a lot of reading and comprehension, which is the main priority in English.

Homework Coach Tutoring

I have volunteered to tutor at After care facilities most of my life. My priority would be to help the individual complete their homework. Not only complete it, but come up with a schedule to balance the amount of work they have.

Math Tutoring

I have taken Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Pre-calc, and Geometry in high school and middle school. Students typically struggle with math subjects, including things that involve equations, multiplication and division. Usually, it because they don't fully memorize the core math subjects first before moving onto more complex math.
