Fun Facts
I love to play table top games! It is incredibly fun to engage in a world someone else has created, as if you are physically experiencing the events of a book. It also teaches valuable life skills, such as creativity, adaptability, and effectively using your current resources.
About Me
I am a creative and enthusiastic person who adapts to a variety of jobs. My favorite work experience has been at Lindamood-Bell, where leaving at the end of the day felt really good, knowing that I had changed a kid's life for the better.
Currently, I am working on creating my own meadery, a place where I would make a wine from honey. I am extremely good at, and want to share my wonderful and delicious creations with the world!
Experience
Having worked at Lindamood-Bell for 2 years, I have spent up to 9 hours a day, 5 days a week helping kids with reading and reading comprehension. The method taught to us, which relies on making mental images of concepts read, is easily applicable to other subjects such as math, science, and history.
Additionally, I have used these methods in non-academic settings, such as in table top games, where it has better helped my players understand the events of the game.
Approach
While I myself wasn't a special needs student, I did struggle at times in school in subjects that I had no interest in. However, On the rare occasion where I had a teacher who made the lesson exciting, interesting, or fun, I excelled.
With this in mind, at my time at Lindamood-Bell, I strove to build rapport with the student, and connect their interests to the lesson at hand, or build fun activities into the lesson, often involving movement into the more difficult tasks. I found that moving

Arts Tutoring
I have taken 3 semesters of Art in college, and a semester of creative writing. GPA for all 4 was 3.5. I have extensive extra curricular experience with watercolor painting, oil pastels, pencil, and digital art, along with working with multiple variances of poems, short stories, and proof-reading.
Biology Tutoring
I've taken biology I+II in college. I've had a gpa of 3.5 in both classes, and scored over 90% on the comprehensive final exam. I have 7 years of practical experience working with microscopic organisms living via anaerobic respiration.
Spanish I Tutoring
I've taken 3 college grade courses in Spanish, along with 11 years of it prior. College gpa was 3.1. Spanish is practiced daily with the help of Duolingo app and native Spanish speakers.
History Tutoring
Took World History, and American History I+II in College, GPA was 3.0. I have lots of Supplemental Knowledge from visiting many American Historical sites, such as Gettysburg, Antietam, and Yorktown.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I have 2 years of working with kids who struggled with Reading Comprehension. The method taught to me, to use with students, is called the Picture Method. This way of teaching, has students make mental pictures of the story they read, which even by itself increases comprehension, as the student is able to "see" what happens in the story, as if they are watching it as a movie in their mind's eye. The pictures are then recalled in a summary, where the student explains what happened in their mental movie, and then higher-order questions are asked, to ensure true comprehension.
Living Environment Tutoring
1 semester of Environmental Science in College, GPA 3.7. 9 months of practical experience from working at Sheldon Lake State Park and Zion National Park. 6 months of teaching a 7th grade student at Lindamood-bell Academy.
Physical Science Tutoring
I have taught students at lindamood-bell middle school physics. I also have a couple of years worth of practical experience involving potential/kinetic energy, heat transfer, and entropy.
Health Tutoring
I have 2 Semesters of Life sciences in college, GPA at 3.0. I have several years of studying cancer, and how it effects the human body.
Reading Tutoring
I have 2 years of working with kids who struggled with Reading. The method taught to me, to use with students, is called the Picture Method. This way of teaching, has students make mental pictures of the letters and words that they read, which even by itself increases spelling ability, as the student is able to "see" the letters in front of them. Once they are able to smoothly spell and pronounce words, this increases reading ability, as they are no longer getting stopped by every unfamiliar word.

I have 1 year of teaching math to kids with dyscalculia. The method I was taught, is the picture method. The picture method teaches the student to visualize numbers in their head, to make them tangible, and able to be manipulated, rather than meaningless lines on a page. Once the student is able to mentally see these numbers, their ability to do larger math problems increases, since they are no longer relying on finger counting to solve problems.
