Fun Facts

I'm an avid mountaineer; I'm going to be going on an expedition to climb some of Colorado's more remote peaks this August.

About Me

I have a bachelor's degree in philosophy. The word "philosophy" derives from the ancient Greek φίλος (philos), which means "lover", and σοφία, which means "wisdom"; true to the name of my field, I am devoted to wisdom and a lover of truth. In addition to philosophy, I have a wide-ranging knowledge of the humanities, particularly English, Latin, history, geography, and civics.
I am also an accomplished standardized test taker, particularly in the verbal and English test fields in which many students struggle. My most recent test was the GRE, on which I scored 170 for the verbal section and 166 for the quantitative section.

Experience

I frequently tutored my cousins in a variety of fields as they went through high school. While I was not a specialist in any of those fields, I had sufficient general knowledge to assist them. It was a joy to be able to help them understand even subjects toward which I was indifferent.

Approach

In school, the most frequent obstacle to learning was my lack of an effective "voice"; a reluctance to ask questions or correct a teacher who wasn't giving me the answers I needed. One of my top priorities is to give students a supportive environment in which they feel able to communicate what they need in order to learn. In addition to giving students the opportunity to speak up, I proactively read between the lines to identify needs my students may not be able to communicate.
